Personal Information Protection Statement

The primary function of Equal Opportunity Tasmania (formerly known as the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner) is to assess, investigate and conciliate complaints of discrimination and prohibited conduct in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998.

Under the Personal Information Protection Act 2004, this office is a custodian of personal information and the collection, use and disclosure of that information is governed by the Act.

  1. Personal information will be collected from you for the purpose of lodging a complaint of discrimination or prohibited conduct or completing an online form and will be used by Equal Opportunity Tasmania to enable your complaint or the information provided to be assessed in accordance with the functions of the office.

  2. Your personal information will be used for the primary purpose for which it is collected, and may be disclosed to agents of the Equal Opportunity Tasmania or specific organisations to whom the information is provided, where relevant such as the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal or other organisations authorised to collect it such as the Office of the Ombudsman.

  3. Personal information will be managed in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 and may be accessed by the individual to whom it relates on request to Equal Opportunity Tasmania.

  4. Personal information will be destroyed where it is no longer required (except where required to be kept in compliance with the Archives Act 1983).
