This exemption was granted to permit Hobart City Council to recruit and employ an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to the identified position of Community Development Officer in the Community and Culture division within the Council on the basis that the position will:

  • Support the reconciliation objectives of the Hobart City Council, including the strengthening of partnerships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania;
  • maintain a current and broad understanding of issues and concerns relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania;
  • Support the Community Participation Coordinator to develop and implement appropriate policy frameworks and promote best practice in the area of Aboriginal engagement and inclusion across all areas of Council; and
  • Work with the community and culture team to support and deliver other community development and social inclusion initiatives as needed.
