Description
This exemption was granted to permit Cancer Council Tasmania to recruit and employ an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to the position of Aboriginal Quitline Counsellor and Liaison Officer on the basis that:
- The position assists in the development and implementation of culturally safe and appropriate
tobacco smoking cessation advice and counselling to Aboriginal people and Tasmania's Aboriginal
community; - The Council's employment strategy is reviewed regularly to ensure it promotes equal
opportunity in employment through an increase of representation and retention of Aboriginal and/or
Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout the organisation; and - The position aligns with the Australian Government's Closing the Gap Tackling Indigenous
Smoking initiative and strategic framework to ensure Quitline services provides culturally safe
services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia (Tasmania).
